Oh hey, didn't see you there. You ready for some movies of questionable quality? Of course you are. Choose from the following movies: Doug's First Movie Chicken Little Gumby Movie OR You can choose the Ted Box, or the Yaki Box. Ted Box smells like areolas and bad 90s action and Yaki's disgust Yaki Box smells like your night being ruined. What a night for degeneracy.

Next movie of the night is from the Yaki Box, and it's Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron! Looks like your night is ruined; there's a horse that is eternally giving bedroom eyes. Also Brad Pitt sleepily narrates this boring, but beautifully animated film.
>>11584 >Yaki Box smells like your night being ruined. Yaki it is.

Scott Pilgrim Anonymous 10/25/2020 (Sun) 01:11:25 No. 6515 [Reply] [Last]
Anyone here read Scott Pilgrim? I reread it sometime last year and loved it; it's funny how a lot of it can resemble woke shit even though it's not, at all. Not to mention that since O'malley was actually in the same subculture as Scott and the others back when he was younger, it didn't have that over-the-top fakeness that SJWs put in their stories when they attempt to be "punk rock". My only gripe is that in some ways, Ramona got off too easy; Scott was torturing himself about remaining faithful to her as he realizes that his hot actress friend wants to fuck his brains out, and ultimately decides not to take the chance to, and decides to stay with Ramona...who fucks one of her exes. And Scott pretty much doesn't make a fucking peep. I guess the final book somewhat attempting to address that part of Ramona fairly well makes up for that. That, and getting fucking stabbed by Gideon before she can fuck off like she's always done. There's also the fact that Gideon and Ramona's past relationship is only hinted at (very well) and not actually shown, it'd be interesting to see him pulling off some emotional manipulation despite him also being a fucking loser. There's also the lack of an explanation of the blink or whatever the hell it was called; how the fuck did Gideon access that shit, and how'd he give Ramona the ability to use it? Or am I misremembering and he actually isn't connected to it at all? But overall, I loved the series and I'd love to actually own copies of them. And Worst World, if he ACTUALLY FUCKING PUBLISHES IT SOMEDAY.

>>6537 >It is just bullshit meme made by some incels. What's the matter? Couldn't think of a way to fit "chuds" and "sweetie" in there while you were at it? Ramona was an absolute slut, a race-traitor, and a dyke-for-the-memes participant as well. I'd actually root for Scott to find happiness with Knives, but I hate Scott even more than Ramona, so I was okay with him becoming evil ex #8 on her simp farm.

Rupert Murdoch To Buy Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Anonymous 04/07/2021 (Wed) 20:55:25 No. 11495 [Reply]

Cartoon PSAs and moral episodes Anonymous 10/30/2020 (Fri) 01:21:48 No. 6826 [Reply]
While modern cartoons are strip mining the 80's and 90s, it seems they are taking our cringe PSAs as well. There was that barbie one where she talks about racism, with her black friend next to her of course and now the latest one is from Steven Universe. It has a cringe parody of old school PSA racism where a boy stops another boy from marrying a boy saying a white boy can't marry a black boy, followed by even more cringe where one of the boy actor's off camera says the parody version doesn't happen in real life. This is where Garnet and the other boy actors chime in to say that just because it doesn't happen to you doesn't mean racism doesn't exist. Kind of missed the point by making fun of a cheesy PSA by being a cheesy PSA itself. Even when I was a kid in the 80s, I thought the PSAs were dumb and hyperbolic and I would think the children watching cartoons now would think the same. The only benefit of them being made is cringe to be made fun of years from now. The only successful kind-of PSA was an episode of Dexter's Lab fighting against a bully that hated accents. That taught me to stand-up for myself more than any PSA could. Any other terrible or general discussion of Cartoon PSAs or episodes that devolve to teach you a lesson out of nowhere. Though, I think most modern cartoons are essentially extended PSAs or moral down talking at this point. Heavy focus on LGBT because if we didn't have 1 character representative of them, we wouldn't know they existed apparently. Kids aren't born racist but are taught to them by their environment or parents which is obvious. I wouldn't be surprised that being assault with messages to not be racist in everything you do, has created more racist than not.

>>10873 <reading comprehension You illiterate dumbass, I mentioned both minimalism and simplicity in positive context both in my written post and in the pics. <bland >minimalism These are two different things that not necessarily correlate and this an entire new argument. I also talked about the other extreme which is over-detailing. Of course, autsimo, not every character design done back then in cel animation was spectacular, but it wasn't nearly as bad and wide-speared as today. The character designs you brought as examples are still good character designs despite being relatively bland; they got good construction, nice contrast between round and straight lines and overall look appealing. Do you actually try to equate these with SU and AT?! Are you completely retarded? The point was SU and AT are oversimplified , not just simplified. <there's nothing about the process of traditional animation that requires the character design to follow certain rules The limitations of cel animation forced decent construction and simplicity, unlike today when you have motion-tween crap and CGI Greeble which easily enable bad character designs. <cell It's called cel, not the smallest unit of life.

>>10888 >but it wasn't nearly as bad and wide-speared as today Yes, it was, you utterly ignorant. UPA art style and animation style spread like wild fire because it was cheap and easy to produce in a time where TV animation overthrew theatrical animation. HB took inspiration from UPA, the entire easter block animated tradition is based on these kind of character designs, even Disney and MGM took inspiration from UPA in some degree. Returning to my last post, the first two are fine, as I stated I like a lot Gerald McBoing Boing but the artstyle gets old really quickly and as a example showed the last two: When a UPA influenced cartoon shows a man, generally draws it in a cookie cutter way, with rounded body bit nose and rounded eyes, in other words really generic with really nothing interesting going on. I'm not defending modern crap like AT or SU, what I mean they have bad character design because the people working on them are mediocre, not because of the technique employed and thinking otherwise is stupid and you are retarded for thinking otherwise. The difference between digital and cel is the difference between a mechanical and an electrical typing machine, if the result will be good or bad is up to the artist. >It's called cel, not the smallest unit of life. Meh, you get the idea.
>>10896 <b..but muh UPA >but after watching the same artstyle for a fiftieth time it gets boring and tedious So you got a hateboner for UPA because you watched it so many times to the point you hate it, autistic moron. As I've said before UPA wasn't the greatest, but it was decent and way better than current shit. <the first two are fine All of them are fine you pretentious faggot. <I'm not defending modern crap like AT or SU That wasn't the point you illiterate idiot, the point was you saying UPA is bad as current Calarts/beansmile shit is complete bollocks. <because the people working on them are mediocre, not because of the technique employed and thinking otherwise is stupid <technological advancements have no meaning nor impact It's both, you disingenuous retard; motion tween-crap will easily let you move badly constructed design, CGI will easily allow you to add greeble, digital painting would allow to add as many colors as you'd like without having to consider paint budget, etc. <The difference between digital and cel is the difference between a mechanical and an electrical typing machine No, a good comparison would be between traditional (hand) sculpting to 3D sculpting. Your comparison is stupid because there's little to no difference between the capabilities/limitations of these machines.

Cartoons / Comics You Can't Quite Remember Anonymous 04/01/2021 (Thu) 05:15:38 No. 10855 [Reply]
There are many cartoons and there are many comics. Chances are there's one you've seen some time ago but for the life of you can't remember the name of, the title of, or anything else except for one or two really specific details. Despite living in the space age of 2021 search engines still can't solve all of our problems and we have to rely on plain old brainpower for some. Hell, with all of the lost media from the 70's-00's and a good chunk of webcomics going out with a whimper there isn't even a guarantee some of these things have a digital footprint left, let alone a physical one. So /co/, is there any oddity that's been bugging you for years, some piece of fiction you could never quite put your finger on? Maybe someone knows else knows about it too.

Is anybody making art like "Do the Evolution" anymore? Anonymous 10/18/2020 (Sun) 03:46:29 No. 6309 [Reply]
I rewatched the video for Do The Evolution for the first time since it came out and was shocked at how good the art is. EVERY SCENE IS A MASTERPIECE. Yes, it's famous as one of the best cartoons ever made, but look at the huge gap between it and anything on TV these days. Is anybody producing artwork and animation with this attention to detail and quality anymore, even for fun?

What are some cartoons and animated films that are definitely primarily set in given states/provinces/regions? Personally, I'm just interested in American states (I'd like to come up with one of each if possible (it's probably not)), but if there's anywhere else Off the top of my head: - Courage the Cowardly Dog is set in Kansas - Gargoyles, various Spider-Man series and various Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series are set in New York - Megas XLR is set in New Jersey - The Robocop cartoon is set in Michigan - Rocket Power and Animaniacs are primarily set in California - Lilo and Stitch is set in Hawaii - Balto is set in Alaska - King of the Hill is set in Texas - Family Guy is set in Rhode Island - South Park is set in Colorado - Scooby Doo on Zombie Island is set in Louisiana That takes me through all the ones I can recall at the moment and accounts for 11/50 states. I'm sure I'm missing some considering that there are major states like Florida that I just can't think up anything for.

I wouldn't know any of this without looking it up, but Sym-Biotic Titan is set in Illinois, Squidbillies is set in Georgia, As Told by Ginger is set in Connecticut, and the Spooktacular New Adventures of Casper is set in Maine.
Lilo & Stitch the animated series is set in Hawaii. Specifically, the island of Kauai though there's a few times they go to the other islands.

DC DTV Animated Movies Anonymous 08/06/2020 (Thu) 19:18:13 No. 3495 [Reply] [Last]
Let's talk about the DC animated movies. What are some of your favorites? Which ones do you think are complete shit? Is there a particular comic that you would like to see get adapted? Justice League Dark Apokolips War finally put an end to the terrible New 52 animated universe. I was hoping they would take a break from the terrible shared universe shit and do stand alone movies for a few years, but it seems like they are just starting a new universe. The first movie will be a Superman movie based on that garbage comic Max Landis did a few years ago. And if you thought the artstyle was bad for the New 52 universe the new Superman movie's style is even worse. And if you somehow haven't figured out that DC is creatively bankrupt they've decided to go back and milk one of the animated movies that people actually like. They are doing an Under the Red Hood interactive prequel where you choose whether Jason lives or dies.

I avidly watched BTAS and had the Batman: Mask of the Phantasm VHS when I was a kid. Around 2000 I finally got to see Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero. Both are good, but if I had the choice to watch them as of now, I'd go Mask of the Phantasm. It speaks more strongly to me.
>>5861 It's funny I always wanted to see a DC movie that was a fighting tournament. Now they're doing it. Hope they use some lesser known characters too like David Cain. >>6135 One thing that bugged me about that show was how they screwed up a lot of the lesser known villains. Professor Pyg I can get since you can't do him properly in a kids cartoon. But Anarky? They royally fucked him up. And then they decided to give Deathstroke daddy issues as his motivation. It's damn shame tbh.
>>10251 I gave you model sheets and list of animation studios as actual proofs. Also, the newer art style is actually harder to animate, why do you think Rubber Hose style and god forbid, Calarts are both rounded.
